My name is Lydia Blevins and I am about to finish my junior year at First Colonial high school. I like to eat, I like to laugh, and I like to dance (even if I can't do it very well). I'm not too terribly interesting so I won't bore you with all the details.
Coming into this year, I had a lot of different expectations for AP English 11 and Mr. Stravino himself. I have taken honors english before but I knew that AP English was going to be a totally different type of class. I expected that this class would be more challenging (And I was right). My goals for this year were to improve my writing skills and ultimately pass the AP exam. AP english requires a different type of thinking than what I have been accustomed to in past english classes and it has taught me to be a better english student. I think I owe my success in this class to my diligence. Although Mr. Stravino never collected the homework, I can honestly say that I still did it every night. You will not succeed in this class unless you put extra time in. The only way to improve is to put the "10,000 hours" in. If I had to make suggestions for rising AP students the first thing I would say is do your work!! If want to be able to get an A or pass the exam you have to do your work. You're going to be frustrated and confused half the time, but don't worry thats normal. You're going to be wrong even more of the time, and that's also okay because that is all part of the process. Make mistakes and learn from them. Left: A nice fun pic of my homies and me! |
